Winter Services

Proper vehicle maintenance is especially important during the winter months, when harsh weather and road conditions can take a toll on performance and safety. Living and working along Colorado’s Front Range means facing highly variable conditions for much of the year. At FMS, we can help prepare your fleet to handle winter with the right equipment, services, and quality parts. Our goal is to reduce the risk of breakdowns and accidents so your vehicles stay reliable when you need them most.
Winter Tires
One of the most overlooked upgrades for fleet vehicles is a dedicated set of winter tires. Designed specifically for cold temperatures and harsh road conditions, winter tires significantly improve traction, handling, and overall control during the most challenging months of the year. Our service advisors can recommend the right winter tire options for your fleet, including studded tires for added grip in icy conditions.
You can purchase your winter tire sets directly through FMS, and when winter weather arrives, we’ll install them for you. When spring returns, we’ll swap them back out—making seasonal transitions simple, convenient, and hassle-free.
Auto-Socks
Auto socks are a simple and cost-effective way to gain additional traction in harsh winter road conditions. Designed to fit securely over your vehicle’s tires, they provide a textured, high-grip surface for improved performance on snow and ice. Made from durable woven fibers, auto socks are lightweight, easy to install, and more compact to store than traditional tire chains. They’re also an excellent alternative for vehicles that are not compatible with chains.
Tire Chains
In Colorado, commercial vehicles are required to carry tire chains from September 1 through May 31, as well as during severe weather conditions outside of those dates when chain laws are active. A commercial vehicle generally includes vehicles or combinations weighing 16,001 pounds or more, vehicles towing heavier units, or vehicles designed to transport 16 or more passengers. At FMS, we help make sure your fleet is properly equipped and ready to meet Colorado’s chain requirements, giving you peace of mind and helping you avoid delays, fines, or unexpected downtime.

Winter Tires vs. Auto Socks vs. Tire Chains

When it comes to winter driving, each traction option serves a different purpose. Winter tires are designed for consistent cold-weather performance, offering improved grip, handling, and braking throughout the entire winter season—making them ideal for daily fleet use. Auto socks are a lightweight, easy-to-install solution that provide added traction on snow and ice and are a great alternative for vehicles that cannot use chains. Tire chains, on the other hand, deliver maximum traction in severe conditions and are often required for certain commercial vehicles during Colorado’s chain law season. At FMS, we can help you determine the right solution for your fleet based on your vehicles, routes, and winter driving demands.
