Light Duty Vehicles

The Federal Motor Carrier Administration (FMCA) classifies vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 0–6,000 pounds as Class 1 and those with a GVWR of 6,001–10,000 pounds as Class 2. Both Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles are categorized as light-duty vehicles.

The Federal Motor Carrier Administration (FMCA) classifies vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 10,001–14,000 pounds as Class 3; 14,001–16,000 pounds as Class 4; 16,001–19,500 pounds as Class 5; and 19,501–26,000 pounds as Class 6. Vehicles within Classes 3 through 6 are categorized by the FHWA as medium-duty vehicles.
